Yes. No. Maybe? Medical Marijuana & Your Drug-Free Workplace Program

Ohio house bill 523 becomes operational in September. This law will make medical marijuana legal under qualifying circumstances and conditions. The new law gives most employers options, allowing them to decide whether or not to permit or accommodate employees using medical marijuana. But making this decision can be challenging, requiring businesses to deliberate several impacting issues including safety, security, public image, impairment and the realities of a very tight labor market. Regardless of a company's decision, there are action steps that should be taken to assure a smooth transition between the black and white world of "no lawful use" to one that's less clear cut.

To give insight into this important decision and provide local businesses with a resource for gathering facts, the Chamber, along with sponsor Eastern Gateway Community College, is pleased to host the next in its series of educational workshops presented by Working Partners®, an Ohio-based firm specializing in drug-free workplace issues.

The 90-minute presentation will:
    
    Raise awareness of business and operational issues from legalization under Ohio house bill 523.
    
    Increase understanding of the related drug-free workplace program issues for employers and employees.
    
    Review key decisions that need to be made - particularly relating to policy, operations and employee/supervisor awareness.
